From cartoons, commercials and ads, The thinner the woman the better. Our media has led our women to think that to be beautiful, successful, and the best, you have to be skinny. there are ads for liposuction, plastic surgery, and even over the counter drugs and supplements to help hunger suppression and to burn fat. The more that this is put in our media, the more it seems to hurt our women versus help them.
There have been many cases where these ads and shows have been the demise for many women. There have been increases in women have binge eating disorders and purging in order to be as skinny as possible. Some of these women have taken this to the unfortunate levels of hurting themselves for this satisfaction. What is the huge issue with these disorders, is the more women do it, the worse it gets and theyeventually become addicted to it. They become so addicted that illnesses occur internally, emothionally, psychologically, and even result in deaths.
I'm not saying that We as a nation do not have a problem with obesity, but we need to create more ads and shows, in order to show the healthy ways of living. The show Biggest Loser is a great show that allows thos of plus sizes to understand and come to terms with their issues of health. The show gives them that outlet that says, "You are not alone, and you can do something about it."
The more we decide to embrace plus size in or media, the easier it would be to do away with these type of issues, and hopefully more healthier forms of helping women will come to fruition.

Bi-Winning: Popularity and Ratings
The latest Charlie Sheen interviews are the new rant and rave on the streets. But why!?! The reason is the media trying to exploit a man for his "radical" behavior off the television screen. One major thing im sure they weren't prepared for, is how much people are more in tune with Charlie than ever before.
Many televison news channels have target Sheen for interviews in order to get a chance to hear what the 2 million dolar an episode actor has to say. "...some people say you are bipolar. How do you feel about that?". Sheen replies with, "...i'm not bipolar, I'm bi-winning. I when here i win there..."
What the news and these interviews have done, have raised the interests in Sheen as well as the raised Sheen some extra money on the side. IS this done purposely? I'm beginning to think so! It is an amazing sight to see Sheen getting so much attention. The more he does these crazy interviews, the better it is for the Network. The net work would be stupid to actually shut down production leaving Sheen to the next Network to up ratings.
He wins with the Network, he wins with Popularity.

HandicapABLE
When most people think or handicapped, they think of individuals as being incapable. The opposite seems to be the case on most television and movies. The portayal of the handicapped in television mainly shows then being able to complete tasks and be just as capable if not more capable than those that are not handicapped.
Take in consideration the show Family Guy. Joe Swanson is a police officer who happens to be in a wheelchair. The cool thing about Joe is, he is not confind to the chair. He is actually one of the most capable members of "the crew". The show Joe doing most of the difficult tasks as if they are effortless.
Another show that has brought the handicap into the limelight is Glee. They have a key character that is in a wheelchair. He is used in all of the skits and is not forced out of choreographed routines. He is essentially a vital part.
On an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm, Larry goes on a blind date with a woman in a wheelchair. Larry is hesitant with her at first giving her circumstances, but as dates go on, he sees how capable she really is.
A movie that touches on the handicap would be Scary Movie. Though they are essentially using it as a joke, the wheelchaired character verbally says, I can do it on my own." Sure enough whatever he puts his mind to he does it.
I believe media does this to allow viewers and society to try to put the stereotype to rest. Just because you are held within a chair does not mean you can't stand up and be capable.

THIS IS A MAN'S WORLD!!!
Hegemonic masculinity is said to be marked by a tendency for the male to dominate other males and subordinate females.
This definition seems to be the basis of all political, economic, as well as social norms in most social sects. But now lets take the household into consideration. Normally, it is the woman or wife of a family that controls what goes on in the household. Is this due to the fact that MEN allow women to have this power, or do women work their way to the position of overthrowing men and taking control for themselves? In many eastern cultures, especially in early history within the confines of the household and in town affairs, it was the women who essentially ran what was done and included some of the men’s daily jobs around town and home. Is there a real term for the power of women in this select scenario? How it is socially and culturally accept for a woman to have this “home” power?
